Skilled Nursing Facilities ( SNFs ), Nursing Homes, Convalescent Homes and Rehabilitation Centers are all terms used to describe a residential facility that provides 24 – hour medical care on site. A skilled nursing facility is an in – patient rehabilitation and medical treatment center staffed with trained medical professionals. Such facilities provide the medically necessary services of nurses, physical and occupational therapist, speech pathologist, audiologist, etc.

These services can be short term for rehabilitation from an illness or injury, or they may be required over the long term for patients who need a high level of care on a frequent or constant basis due to a chronic medical condition. Examples of skilled nursing services include wound care, intravenous ( IV ) therapy, injections, catheter care, physical therapy, and monitoring of vital signs and medical equipment. Skilled Nursing Facilities provide round-the-clock assistance with healthcare and activities of daily living.
