Board and Care Homes

These are facilities for the elderly that provide a home – like atmosphere and tend to be situated in single – family homes in residential neighborhoods that have been adapted to meet licensing requirements and usually licensed for 6 residents.

These communities offer room, board, 24 hour staffing/caregivers and care services while operating with a high staff-to-resident ratio enabling staff to provide a high level of care and assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, medication management, incontinence care, walking, feeding, grooming, and other forms of personal care. The residents may be ambulatory, non – ambulatory or bedridden.

Many of these communities specialize in higher care needs including Alzheimer’s and Dementia care. Nursing and medical care are not provided on site. However, home health care, Hospice, and other home – based services can be brought in from outside providers.
